Marble occupies a unique position among building stones due to its pleasant look and easy carving. The term marble is derived from the Latin world “marmor” which itself comes from the Greek root word “marmaro”, meaning “a shining stone”. Marble is a recrystallised (metamorphosed) limestone. Marble is preferred stone because of its easy workability, pleasing colours, attractive patterns and as it enhances the aesthetic beauty and imparts a feel of dignity to the structure.
In the past marble was used only in palaces, temples or monuments or in the buildings constructed by rich people, Today, it is a different scene altogether. Due to the application of technical and mechanical advancements in the excavation and processing, marble has come within the reach of common man.
